Katie and Enrique – Hemingway House Wedding

Katie and Enrique – Hemingway House Wedding

Katie & Enrique

Ernest Hemingway House

Umm can we say, “Love is in the Air”! Meet Katie and Enrique, just an amazing couple who’s love for one another and family took center point at their very special Key West Wedding at the world famous Ernest Hemingway House in Old Town Key West.

We absolutely love that they threw traditions out of the window to start the day with…by getting ready together…um LOVE!!! They still kept each other surprised, with the dress reveal and a few other fun things between the couple. Katie wanted a sunset wedding ceremony with little interruption between the ceremony cocktail and the reception…such our bride!

With two Key West landmarks as their backdrop (Hemingway House and the Key West Lighthouse), this one of the prettiest and most romantic ceremonies that we had seen. Between, the hand off of the bride, the ring bearer and Rusty Lemmon on acoustic guitar this was the perfect Key West Wedding moment!

Katie’s “little formality” flow, worked like a charm as guest headed to an amazing cocktail hour around Ernest Hemingway’s private pool, which is the largest pool in downtown Key West!  As guest made their way to the uncovered reception, where the night sky was fully visible Great Events was putting the final touched on the most amazing outdoor food station. The pictures simply do not do it justice.

Once the family blessing was complete, guest indulged on libations and food, with no interruption as Katie did not want a first dance, or cake cutting…she wanted a party where all her close friends and family could just have a great time under the night sky. That is exactly what she got, finishing the night with the perfect song just how she envisioned. “Africa” by Toto, with the couple encircled by their friends and family.

Danielle & Joey – Ocean Key Resort Wedding

Danielle & Joey – Ocean Key Resort Wedding

Danielle & Joey

Ocean Key Resort

“I find the unrehearsed, unconscious aspects of life the most beautiful to photograph, as they are most open to interpretation, to a narrative.” A quotation by Arne Svenson that best describes why I love photography so much, for Danielle and Joey it was the “unrehearsed, unconscious aspects…” that made their wedding so memorable.

Danielle and Joey came to us all the way from South Florida…already familiar with our work, as we shot a wedding held at her father’s house 7-years ago. They were excited to have us capture their special moment, so much that they signed up for a full day of coverage, allowing us plenty of time to snap a number of spectacular images.

The beautiful celebration took place  at the Ocean Key Resort & Spa in Key West, FL; a southernmost subtropical paradise. It is here where I was greeted by the gorgeous bride, mother and bridesmaids, all in their wedding-colored robes. The mood, as expected, was very sweet and playful, a lot like the the cakes Danielle featured as a semi-finalist for TLC’s Next Great Baker. As they all prepared, the bridesmaids drank from mason jars and the bride danced and sang into a hairbrush doubling as a microphone. The party had begun for these girls.

However, on the other side of the hotel the dapper groomsmen celebrated and cheered with their copper Moscow mule cups in their cream and turquoise ensemble. They laughed and teased the excited, yet nervous, groom who was anxious to get things started.

The ceremony was held at the resort’s Ocean Terrace, where guests feasted their eyes across the scenic waterfront view. Moments later that view would be replaced by the stunning bride in her breathtaking tiered-dress, escorted down the isle by her proud dad to her handsome groom. She looked radiant, and Joey charming in his cream colored tux. Once together they both looked so happy and in love. It was really sweet.

Married by a personal friend, the nuptials celebrated the bride and groom individually and as a couple.  As they held hands and stared adoringly into each others eyes, there were heartwarming and ticklish stories of love and friendship, something the guests really enjoyed by the sound of laughter throughout.

After the vows were exchanged and the groom kissed his bride, it was off to the reception at the Sunset Pier surrounded by Key West’s turquoise water. Two houses divided, Danielle and Joey entered the reception to the Florida Gator Anthem (Danielle’s alma mater) and the Florida Seminole Anthem (Joey’s alma mater). Cheers and boos greeted them on the dance floor depending each guests’ colors. Whatever side you were on it was a great way to get the crowd going and celebration started. Soon followed the great toasts given by the best man and maid of honor, both of which brought lots of awes and laughter. Following the traditional father-daughter/mother-son dances, the seated couple was hoisted into the air by the guests as they danced around them. It was pure entertainment.

After all the food, drinks and dancing were enjoyed, it was time to say goodbye and send off the couple with a sprinkle shower that included over 100lbs of cake sprinkles thrown at them during their going away dance. Danielle was in HEAVEN, but exhausted. When they went back to their hotel room, while Joey ate some snacks and caught up on sports, she passed out on his shoulder with a smile. Her dream wedding had finally come true! She couldn’t have been any happier.

And luckily we were there to witness it all.

Megan and Tyler – Key West Wedding

Megan and Tyler – Key West Wedding

Megan and Tyler

St Mary’s Basilica

Margaritaville Resort and Marina

Today’s forecast called for blue skies and 70-degree weather. All the beginnings of a picture perfect Island wedding. Megan & Tyler couldn’t have been blessed with a more beautiful day. This couple who met 3 years ago at a bar in Miami decided on Key West, FL as the place for their “I do’s”. A decision that they would never regret.

The day started with the bride getting ready at the Chelsea House, a historic boutique hotel that is centrally located in the Old Town area of Key West. There she was joined by her nieces, bridesmaids and grandfather. All of whom were in the best of spirits; laughter and a playful vibe filled up the room. Once professional makeup artist Marie-Pierre of  Studio Marie-Pierre finished making the bride and her wedding party look and feel special, everyone was pumped for the ceremony.

The church, St. Mary Star of the Sea, was filled with family and friends from all over. Flowers from Mama Flowers adorned the already exquisite chapel, as well as the echo’s of laughter and excitement, which were then silenced by Tyler entering the room and replaced by the clicks of everyone’s cameras. Tyler looked dapper in his grey suit. I could tell he was nervous and anxious for it all to begin. Luckily he did not have too long to wait. As the organ changed music for Megan to come in, the doors opened and before his eyes his beautiful bride appeared. Megan came down the aisle escorted by her father with the biggest smile ever. She was happy, it was her moment. The ceremony was lovely and very sentimental, especially when Megan took notice of her grandmother by the front of the church in her wheelchair. When it was all over and they were pronounced man and wife the crowd cheered with the exception of the ring bearer who was in all tears. It was an awesome photo moment. Lol

Old Town Trolley had the honors of driving the bridal party, family, bride and groom to the Margaritaville Resort, the reception locale. There the happy couple had their first dance to the song “Come to me” by the Goo Goo Dolls and the father of bride gave an emotional speech that just melted his little girls heart. Once all the wedding formalities and eating was done, the drinking (well more drinking) and dancing began. Guests rushed to the dance floor and made sure that every bit of the night was celebrated. There was lots of twirling, people getting down low, low, low and many other picture perfect moments.

Like I said in the beginning, getting married in Key West, FL was a decision Megan and Tyler will never regret, and they didn’t.

Alexis & Joey – Southernmost Mansion Wedding

Alexis & Joey – Southernmost Mansion Wedding

Alexis & Joey

Southernmost Mansion

Aw young love, there’s nothing quite like it. Meet Alexis and Joey, two Miami natives who have known and been in love with each other since their first meeting sophomore year in high school. With no cell phones at the time, Alexis shared how they would correspond via pager. Talk about a throw back, with the numbers 40 (his code) and 74 (her code) they would send “I love you’s” to each other throughout the day. Bless my heart, isn’t that just adorable? Hearing more about their story, I knew these two held a special bond between them and that my goal for this union would be to capture with my lens and candid photography, the beauty of their story.
Their search for a location where they could have both the ceremony and reception, brought them to one of Florida’s most renowned bed and breakfast, The Southernmost Mansion. Known for its extraordinary architecture, history and tropical gardens, this Key West wedding photographer was super excited. Some of my favorite shots have been taken there, and by the gut feeling this celebration was already giving me, I knew there were going to be a lot more to add to my collection.
The wedding took place on Saturday, December 1st. Now for those who have been in Key West during this time, it can get a little brisk; however, not on this day. The skies could have not been any bluer and the lack of humidity gave way to perfect hair for all those involved. Thank you sweet Jesus! Calm and collective, Alexis got dressed with the help of makeup artist Christina Vidal and her mother Jessica. While across the hall Joey’s tie was being perfected by one of his best men and his nerves calmed with friendly banter.
With veil on, flower girl’s earrings secured and one last spritz of hairspray for grandma’s hair, the time had come to work their way down to the beautiful setting that was waiting for them outside. As Dakota, the flower girl, peeked out the door, everyone lined up and got ready for the processional. The backdrop couldn’t have been more perfect, and with one last review of his vows, Joey walked towards the pastor to wait for his soon to be bride.
Once the final couple of the bridal party reached the altar, it was Alexis’s turn to make her grand entrance. The music changed to ‘Canon in D’ and soon after she appeared flowing down the stairs glowing with love. As they stood before each other and exchanged vows, there were tears but also lots of laughter and before they knew it, they were one.
Setup pool side, straight from the ceremony the guests were lead to cocktail hour and then the reception. The first dance, on the mansion’s back porch, continued the mood of romance and magic. Friends and family enjoyed the night with great music, food and a trolley ride to an after party. It was definitely something to write home about, just not through a pager. 🙂 Alexis
